About Anomic:
Runnin and gunnin done good. Anomalous takes the basic aspects of a good shooter (movement, guns, action) and just does them right. Nothing groundbreaking but solid fun. All your standard weapons are there. Level design is varied and the artistic style is really great. It’s still EA obviously and theres some jank, enemies need a bit of work (still fun to gun down) but things are being updated. But seriously this game is $5 it is 100% worth your money if you like shooters at all. You get 10 levels (all of episode 1 of an eventual 3) that will give you a good 4-6 hours of gameplay if your like me (someone who just enjoys shooters instead of speeding all through it). Immediately I’m struck by how much the environments feel like Half-Life 2 City 17 and G-String, these decrepit brutalist buildings and a dystopian city fallen into chaos. But at the same time the structure of the level design takes more from Doom 2016/Eternal, looping vertical levels with jump pads, open arcadey arenas, hunting glowing floating key cards, secrets that you can track by pressing tab, retro fast movement speed, and though you can’t jump very high, it’s a pretty long jump. Music too is very Mick Gordon-esque. The weapons feel very meaty. But first of all, I’m always very partial to that weapon sway Half-Life 2/Doom 3/Quake 4/Prey had, and this game nails that weapon sway, shooting them too feels rewarding, the axe animation is juicy as well as how the subtle camera shake when swinging syncs up to the swing and hit, hits are punchy as well.
