Overview Pure 2008:
The visual design is absolutely stunning and some levels are genuinely breathtakingly gorgeous. The cyberpunk dystopia of the game is truly fleshed out through the tone and aesthetic of the visuals, which leaves you with a strong impression of this highly industrial and oppressed world. There were some set pieces in particular which were not only outstanding in terms of gameplay, but which stood out from a technical standpoint due to the sheer amount of things going on, all while you control the blood-pumping action happening at break-neck pace. HOWEVER – RTX is broken. GPU utilisation for most levels in the game drops to below 50% for me as soon as RTX is enabled and likewise, the framerate literally drops by more than half with RTX on. The game is absolutely stunning with RTX on, but this was a bit disappointing and even with DLSS performance mode and other settings turned down, the framerate was too unstable with RTX on. There’s also a decent variety of enemies and each one requires a different approach to take down. Generally, the level design is really awesome because it provides you multiple ways to approach combat scenarios. Unfortunately, there can be quite a bit of jank when it comes to locking onto the right wall during wall-runs, or accidentally climbing onto things when you don’t mean to. This happens because the game makes you auto-grapple most stuff, because this thing is built for speed. It makes sense as a design choice, but it’s good to be aware of and expect this. Last note on gameplay, there are also some boss battles, but these definitely needed a bit more work or polish. Overall, they just weren’t as satisfying or fair as the regular combat and did cause me a bit of frustration.
