Overview Seclusion Sword:
Seclusion Sword I consider this game as fitting for an arcade game: simple controls & mechanic, sharp difficulty increase, has score system. As others mentioned, this is a rhythm game, but “it does not have music nor it follow to the beat of the music”. The game teaches you to remember the rhythm by giving you the same beat notes across several sub-level, while the “background music” serves as a metronome. Finally, what’s most intriguing but has absolutely no impact on the gameplay is the “lore”. At first I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t stop thinking about this game. Its parallels to Lovecraftian horrors really sell it for me, even though I don’t care whatsoever for that genre. Players who just want to play the game can just play like it’s nothing, but for those who wants to compete on score, that is where the game shines. You will find yourself that the game demands perfection and practice, as you have to turn at the last second before hitting the walls, pounding over bonus thumps, beating bosses at attempt one and keeping your preserverance trying to not crash at any moment. The joy of beat pounding over and over from successful blue notes repeatedly causing short frame pauses and large reverberations is felt in very few games. It is enough to put you in some kind of mild trance. It’s like the notes you play and the background beating are two different rhythms but still work wonderfully, the same kind of syncopation you might get from your favorite Meshuggah song.
