About Sonic Speed Simulator:
Sonic Origins compiles the first four major platforming entries in the Sonic the Hedgehog series into a single slick package. The versions of the games included are mostly based on the acclaimed mobile ports by some of the developers who went on to work on Sonic Mania, so these are definitely some of the better ways to play these games. In addition, all games have autosave and do away with lives, making this a more accessible experience for new players to the series or those with a little less patience like myself. The original Sonic the Hedgehog was the game that put Sega on the map in North America, but it’s also the iffiest game in this collection. Sonic’s actual controls are largely in step with later entries, and are the same as the other games in this version, but besides Green Hill Zone, these levels tend to be more slower and/or more linear affairs than 2 or 3, sometimes frustratingly so. The presentation is also a little less impressive than its sequels in terms of both spritework and music. Still, this is a very short game and is a solid enough time.Sonic the Hedgehog 2 followed a year and a half later and is a clear improvement, to the point that I would call it my favorite in this collection. This is the game that introduced the spin dash and the option to play as Tails, and this is where the series’ trademark fluid and branching level design starts to show itself in spades, and the spritework and soundtrack have improved as well.
