About South London 2:
Will you get >25 fps? No. Is there lag? Lots. Will your game freeze, sometimes for minutes on end? Yes. Will it crash? Sometimes. Is this DLC an enjoyable experience? Not always. Then why on earth do I recommend it?! Well, this DLC is not really to blame for above mentioned issues. It’s just that OMSI 2 (2011 engine) simply cannot handle it, no matter how good your PC is. We should give OMSI bad reviews, not this DLC. The DLC itself is great and money worth. You get 16 (!) routes, 4 detailed buses (especially the routemaster looks amazing) with interesting unique features (the scrolling destination blinds are a nice touch) which you can stop at over 200 bus stops, from the suburbs down to Piccadilly Circus via the Big Ben. Given that his DLC was made by a dude who (according to an ITV News item) quit his job to spend 4 years working 12 hours a day on this DLC, I think we should give it some slack and just give it a thumbs up. If you install the 4GB patch and turn down your OMSI settings to reduce lag, I’m sure you can get a few hours of enjoyable gameplay out of this. This map is huge and detailed, it’s really pushing the limits for what you can do in Omsi, I recommend reading the manual and use the recommended settings, or you WILL run out of memory, there’s only so much you can do with a 32 bit game. I would recommend using the 4GB patch, be aware that this patch doesn’t work properly if you don’t have minimum 8GB RAM due to what is reserved by your system. You should also have a fast processor and a SSD, ofc you don’t HAVE to, but having Omsi on a SSD reduces load time for tiles significantly. Contrary to some other reviews I think the buses are pretty good, sure there are some buttons and stuff that you can’t interact with so you have to use the keyboard controls, I don’t see the problem with this, is it realistic to pan and click with a mouse ? The map also presents a lot of new assets that you can use if you make your own routes, or you can use the traffic vehicles on your modded british maps. The map does have some performance issues, but I’m not so sure to much can be done to improve it without ruining the immersive details, maybe more textures could be converted to dds, but then it won’t look as good. Overall I think it’s a great map that I highly recommend, thank you for making this for us all to enjoy 🙂
